DJ Taiwan Shares End Down 0.1%; Acer Jumps on New Appointment
December 24, 2013

0553 GMT [Dow Jones] Taiwan shares end 0.1% lower at 8450.49 in a subdued volume. Acer (2353.TW), the most actively traded stock, closes up 6.2% at NT$18.05 after the embattled PC maker named an ex-TSMC (2330.TW) executive, Jason Chen, as president and CEO. First Capital says the appointment is positive, as investors expect Mr. Chen, who has also worked at Intel and IBM, to "inject international experience and innovative energy" into Acer. The house expects Acer to test NT$20.00 in the near term, although further upside isn't warranted until Mr. Chen proves he can actually turn the loss-making PC maker around.
